Like many adults, it took a long time to reach the point of diagnosis. According to my website poll over 40% of adults take more than 5 years to obtain a diagnosis. After all those years of effort: doctors, forms, waiting lists, doubt, questions, psychiatrists: diagnosis we have a cure - stimulant meds - problems resolved!
Unfortunately for me, as for a rather large proportion of adults, the benefits of medication do not outweigh the physical and emotional side effects. I didn't like how I felt on them and I didn't like myself so much on them. I set my course on Understanding, Accepting and Embracing my ADHD. This is the strategy I use in my coaching, irrespective of medication.
Here are four snapshots from my ADHD diagnosis journey edited from my former newsletters.
